We were delighted to welcome members and guests to Beverley Building Society’s Annual General Meeting on Tuesday 21 April 2026, held for the very first time at the historic Beverley Memorial Hall.
With our long-standing venue, Browns Department Store Café, sadly no longer available, the Memorial Hall provided the perfect backdrop for a memorable evening. Guests were welcomed with a glass of fizz and a warm reception.
Special Guests and Local Dignitaries
It was a pleasure to host a strong turnout of members alongside a number of distinguished local guests, including Councillor Liam Dealtry, Chairman of the East Riding of Yorkshire Council and Councillor Alison Healy, Mayor of Beverley and her Consort, Councillor Denis Healy.
Strong Performance in Challenging Times
Proceedings were officially opened by our Chair, Karen Wint, who reflected on a solid financial performance in 2025, achieved against a challenging economic backdrop. She outlined how the Society continues to work hard to secure stability in mortgage lending for the future.
Karen also shared highlights from our latest customer feedback, gathered through Smart Money People. With an exceptional 4.92 out of 5 rating, these testimonials once again place the Beverley among the strongest in our sector and are a true testament to our commitment to first-class customer service and community support.
Investing for Today and Tomorrow
Our CEO, Janet Bedford, went on to explain that despite ongoing investment and development, 2025 delivered increased profitability for the Society.
She drew attention to a series of engaging presentation panels displayed around the room, illustrating how mortgages, savings, technology – and society as a whole – have evolved over the past 20 years. Janet highlighted how Beverley Building Society is continuing to evolve to meet the changing needs of our members, not only today but well into the future.
Industry Recognition
This commitment to excellence has not gone unnoticed. Over the past year, Beverley Building Society was proud to receive the Yorkshire Financial Award for Mortgage Provider of the Year, for the second consecutive year and the Excellence Award for Later Life Mortgages, from Mortgage Introducer
These awards reflect the hard work and dedication of our entire team.
Supporting Our Community
Giving back to our heartland remained a key theme of the evening. In 2025, the Society donated over £19,000 to charitable and community organisations, with more than £10,000 supporting our 2025 Charity of the Year, Hull and East Yorkshire Mind.
Jack Moore, Head of External Relations at the Charity, thanked the Society for keeping important conversations around mental health alive through consistent fundraising and awareness activities. He explained how the funds raised will help people access vital support services when they need them most.
We were also pleased to announce Beverley Cherry Tree Community Centre as our main Charity Partner for 2026. Jo Ramsay, Centre Manager, spoke passionately about the challenges faced by individuals and families who often have nowhere else to turn. She also shared an update on the Centre’s new Youth Hub, built last year by DIY SOS and local volunteers, and expressed her enthusiasm about working closely with our team again.
Member Engagement and Final Thanks
The AGM concluded with a member’s question, answered by Karen Wint, followed by the formal Results of the Resolutions.
We would like to extend special thanks to the team at Beverley Memorial Hall for creating such a welcoming atmosphere and providing a delicious buffet, which was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone at the end of the evening.
Thank you to all who attended and continue to support Beverley Building Society – we look forward to seeing you again soon.
