A huge thank you to everyone who attended Beverley Building Society’s AGM on 29 April 2025. We celebrated probably the biggest member turnout that the Society has ever seen, and it was wonderful to chat to everyone in a relaxed setting.

We were also delighted to welcome some important local dignitaries, the Chairman of East Riding Council, Councillor Linda Bayram and her Consort, Mr Charlie Bayram, along with the Mayor and Mayoress of Beverley, Councillor David Boynton and Miss Tina Wilson.

Proceedings were officially opened by our Chair Karen Wint, who reflected on yet another year’s solid performance in a challenging economic environment and making significant progress in modernising the business.

She highlighted Beverley’s independent customer feedback results, collated by Smart Money People, which show some of the highest scores in the sector at 4.93 out of 5 and announced that the firm donated £20,500 to charities and community groups last year.

Our CEO, Janet Bedford then talked about focusing on the interests of members and communities rather than shareholders. This included being open longer than any other bank or building society in Beverley and giving customers the opportunity to see a highly skilled mortgage manager face to face – just some of the reasons why the Beverley won the 2024 Yorkshire Finance Awards for both Mortgage Provider of the Year and Outstanding Customer Service.

Janet provided a fascinating insight into some of the Society’s key investment areas which are designed to improve efficiency, reduce costs and benefit the environment. She also touched on the Beverley’s hugely popular suite of new digital savings notice accounts, which allow members to fully self-service if they wish, and which has resulted in record savings balances.

The audience also heard from the Society’s charitable partners. Andy Wilson of Yorkshire Cancer Research, the Society’s Charity of the Year for 2024 praised our team for raising over £13,500 to support pioneering research and early cancer screening programmes. Marie-Louise Robinson of Hull & East Yorkshire Mind, this year’s Charity of the Year, talked about the collaboration to make a positive impact on mental health services in our region.

The Society welcomed questions from members, which were answered by Karen and Janet before the Results of the Resolutions took place.

Special thanks to Browns Department Store for once again playing host to the event and for providing the delicious buffet and refreshments, which were thoroughly enjoyed by everyone at the end of the evening.
