A huge thank you to everyone who attended Beverley Building Society’s latest AGM on 24 April 2023. It was wonderful to chat to our members in a relaxed setting and hear from our community partners. We would also like to pay tribute to Brown’s department store in Beverley town centre, where the event took place and which provided a delicious buffet for everyone to enjoy.
Karen Wint, who recently succeeded Stuart Purdy as our new Chair, opened formal proceedings and answered the member questions provided. She also reflected on some of the key developments of 2022, such as board changes, life stories from our latest Member Review and stressed our commitment to continuing to offer practical, good value savings and mortgage products, backed up by exceptional customer service.
Following her first year in the role, our CEO, Janet Bedford, presented some impressive financial highlights, after the Society successfully navigated one of the UK’s most economically challenging and volatile periods. Most notably these included nearly doubling new mortgage lending to £35M and winning Mortgage Provider of the Year in the Yorkshire Financial Awards 2022.
We also heard from Jo Ramsay, Manager of last year’s Charity of the Year, the Beverley Cherry Tree Community Centre, and how delighted she was to the difference we made to their important work supporting vulnerable local people. As our Charity of the Year for 2023, Dove House Hospice cares for people with life-limiting illnesses and their families across the East Riding and their Senior Fundraiser, Jethro Shearring, presented the exciting details of our Campaign Partnership so far this year and the various fundraising and volunteering activities we have planned moving forwards.
