Founded in 1866, the Beverley is one of the UK’s longest-established societies.

One of only a few remaining in the UK, we are proud to have served generations of families in our region and beyond.

We are committed to demonstrating what makes us different every day, as a mutual, by building better futures for the members who own the Society, our people, our community and the sector we belong to.

To that end, we concentrate on offering straightforward, good value mortgage and savings products, specialising in niche mortgages for customers looking for common sense solutions.

We believe in supporting the vibrancy of our region in particular, by making a difference and listening to our members in order to evolve to meet their changing needs, as well as serving customers the length and breadth of the UK.

Doing things differently

An introduction to Beverley Building Society from CEO Janet Bedford, Head of Lending Graham Carter, Head of New Business Simon Glass and some of our members.

Above all, we take pride in offering an outstanding level of personal customer service. In an age where financial services are moving, at pace, towards digital, artificial intelligence powered-automation, we believe there is still a place for people-centred financial services, and we are passionate about maintaining that personal touch.

We don’t rely on computers to decide what we should do, we make pragmatic decisions based on a full understanding of each customer’s whole circumstances, and are motivated by what is genuinely in our members’ best interests.

We don’t pay bonuses. All of our profits are used to maintain the Society’s financial strength, or invested in member and community initiatives.

And you won’t ever feel pressured to ‘buy’. When you speak to us, you’ll receive a straightforward answer to your questions and genuine advice on which products or services best suit your circumstances.

Helping our community

As a mutual building society, we were originally created to meet the need for ordinary people to own their own homes. The ‘revolutionaries’ of their day, our founders formed collectives, saving together to purchase one house after another for their members.

So, our community roots have always run deep and we’re staying true to that original purpose today, too. We do this by offering products and services which meet our members’ changing needs, and by contributing to the vibrancy of the community in which we’re based.

We support our local community partners – including the new writing and accessible arts at East Riding Theatre, to the pioneering local Beverley FM radio station, which enriches local life with its entertaining music and content and Beverley-centric news. We also work closely with our Charity of the Year and, during 2022, this has been the Beverley Cherry Tree Community Centre.

Since 1993, the Centre has been a base for local residents, from children to pensioners and those in need of help. It offers a host of important services, from free advice and a food bank, to a youth club and a Little Gruffalos pre-school nursery. The Centre, that promotes a website motto of: “When you don’t know where to turn, we can help you or find someone who can” provides a vital lifeline to vulnerable local people.
