Beverley Building Society’s 2023 Charity of the Year is Dove House Hospice – and they need your support!

We’re absolutely delighted to officially announce Dove House Hospice as our Charity of the Year for 2023!

The Charity, based in East Hull, looks after patients over the age of 18 with life-limiting illnesses, and their loved ones, across Hull and the East Riding of Yorkshire. Alongside the provision of end-of-life care, the organisation offers a wide range of longer-term services, including therapy, emotional support, respite care and a specialist Child Bereavement Group. Staff consistently go the extra mile to create a home from home environment and bring a little light into the darkest of times, from preparing a favourite meal and allowing family pet visits to bringing weddings forward for that special day.

Jethro Shearring, the Charity’s Senior Fundraiser (Trusts), said: “We are incredibly grateful to Beverley Building Society for selecting Dove House Hospice as its Charity of the Year for 2023 and are very excited to work alongside them; every pound raised will help to make such a special difference to patients and families accessing hospice care. Following the crippling effects of the pandemic and in the current economic climate, support in this way is more vital than ever before in ensuring that the hospice can not only continue to provide its core care but to open up services that were so badly affected by Covid 19. With only limited central funding available, it is only through the generosity of the local community and organisations such as Beverley Building Society, that the hospice can continue to provide specialist care to so many across Hull and East Yorkshire who need it most.”

The Society is very mindful that, financially, this is a difficult time for many people. So, if you are able to support our Campaign – whatever size that donation may be – it is enormously appreciated by everyone here and the Hospice.

Your support could help people like Carl, Beth and their family…

Carl & Beth's story - Dove House Hospice

Many people think that hospice care is primarily for the elderly, but that’s absolutely not the case. You would never dream of needing a hospice at the age of 40, but anyone might need their help one day. A young family who has been touched by the care that Dove House provided are a wonderful example of this and Carl and Beth were so glad they took the nerve wracking first steps to come to Dove House. Read their story here.

Our ‘BBS4DoveHouse’ Just Giving page!

For that reason, we’re particularly excited to have launched a dedicated Just Giving page, to give you more flexibility than before to support our charitable efforts. Now you can make a monetary donation online, as well over the counter in our Saturday Market branch in Beverley.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on, or send unwanted emails. 2023 Fundraising Target: £12,000!

Here at the Beverley, we love a challenge. So, this year, we’ve set ourselves a fundraising target of £12,000 to make a difference to this incredible cause, which is approximately a thirty per cent increase on our 2022 fundraising total of £9,250. That achievement would not have been possible without our amazing members, the public and local businesses so a huge thank you to all of you once again.

We’ve kickstarted this year’s Fundraising Campaign!

With that target in mind we’re proud to have kickstarted our 2023 Charity of the Year Fundraising Campaign for Dove House Hospice by donating £3,401 – the exact amount required to fund two Syringe Drivers with lock boxes, which were urgently needed by the Hospice’s Wilberforce Unit. A common misconception is that these are only used for end-of-life care, when in fact they are also crucial at earlier stages and can be a vital way of controlling debilitating symptoms such as pain & nausea.

We need your help…

We now need your help to smash our fundraising target for 2023! So if you would rather come into branch to make a donation that’s fantastic but if online is easier for you please visit our dedicated Just Giving page.

However you choose to get involved, please be part of our BBS4DoveHouse Fundraising Campaign: donate whatever you can and share our social media posts with the hashtag: ‘#BBS4DoveHouse’ to help us spread the word!

We’ve got lots of fun-filled activities planned to support Dove House’s vital work throughout 2023, from branch promotions to supporting the Charity’s programme of events and also by volunteering in a variety of ways.
