We’re cycling 340 miles in a ‘Coast to Coast’ themed Charity Bike Challenge from 2 – 6 October 2023!

Can YOU support our Exercise Bike Challenge between Monday 2nd to Friday 6th October and help us to raise vital funds for Dove House Hospice?

What’s involved?

For the second consecutive year – and hot on the heels of Team BBS’s entry in the Charity’s It’s A Knockout event last month – we’re bringing our trusty BBS exercise bike back into our Saturday Market branch in Beverley for a serious cycling marathon, all in aid of a great cause.

Our CEO, Janet Bedford, completing the last 12 miles of our 2022 Exercise Bike Challenge.

This is the latest initiative in our 12-month programme of fundraising and volunteering activities for our 2023 Charity of the Year, Dove House Hospice. BBS team members will join forces to cycle as fast as they can, relay style, to reach the 340 mile target over 5 days – that’s the equivalent round trip distance of the well-known Way of the Roses, from Bridlington, in Yorkshire to Morcambe, in Lancashire. Phew, those legs of steel will be spinning guys!

Why is fundraising so important to Dove House Hospice?

And the reason we’re doing this? Dove House Hospice provides expert specialist care to adults living with progressive life-limiting illnesses and their families. Illnesses include, but are not limited to, cancer, neurological illnesses, heart diseases and respiratory diseases. Patients don’t just visit for end-of-life care, but are referred to the hospice for many reasons, including pain and symptom management, respite, psychological support and family support, to help “life to be added to days, when days can no longer be added to life”, as the Dove House team frequently says.

But incredibly, and despite its vital contribution to society, Dove House relies almost entirely on donations for its survival.

Any one of us may need hospice care one day – so we’re passionate about raising as much as possible to support the incredible work they do. But we need the help of our local community…

You can donate at any time in branch or online

We completely understand that the current cost-of-living crisis means that finances are tight right now. However, if you are able to give something – whatever that may be – you will be helping to make sure that more families create happy memories together and get the care and support they need.

So, this Autumn week-long fundraiser is all about a fierce competitive spirit and sheer determination, with a few perspiring brows and red faces. You can spur us on by kindly donating at any time, either in cash at our branch counter, or online at our Just Giving page (details below) – and if you’re in Beverley during the week of the Challenge make sure to pop in and say hello; you may even see us before you get to the door – if the weather’s fine, we could be cycling outside again!

Donating online via Just Giving…

If you prefer to donate online, we’ve got it covered – simply visit our dedicated Just Giving page (which also shows you the total raised so far this year) any time between now and 6th October.

Thank you for reading this page and for hopefully supporting Beverley Building Society’s 2023 ‘Coast to Coast’ Charity Exercise Bike Challenge. Finally, don’t forget to watch out for our social media updates and please share if you can to spread the word with the hashtag #BBS4DoveHouse.
