The Charity of the Month for March 2017 has been announced – local charity that provides services for young wheelchair users: Go Kids Go!
The charity provides free courses to young wheelchair users, teaching them skills to become independently mobile so that they can enjoy the same activities as their able-bodied peers.
The Society met with Roy Wild from the Go kids Go to learn more about the charity and its work. Roy said: “Go Kids Go would like to thank the customers of Beverley Building Society for choosing us as the recipients of the monthly charity donation.
The money donated will go towards running workshops for young wheelchair users and towards our disability awareness work in schools in Beverley and the surrounding area.”
“Go Kids Go have been running wheelchair skills training for young wheelchair users since 1990; training designed to enable independence and to help ensure that the young people are able to reach their full potential.”
Steve Kennington, Finance Manager at the Society said, “Go Kids Go is a fantastic local charity, providing training for those both with full and part-time need to use a wheelchair. Providing that support to help maximise independent mobility is invaluable to the young people they work with and also helps improve understanding the difficulties they can face”
The charity is based in Beverley but operates across the UK, hosting school awareness days and training for fulltime and part-time wheelchair users.
The Society’s Charity of the Month initiative has been successful this year, with many charities being suggested by members and non-members of the Society, to be put forward for the in-branch voting system.
