150th Anniversary Celebratory Dinner

Jul 25

It is 150 years since the Beverley Building Society first opened its doors to help residents own their homes and gain the democratic right to vote. To mark the occasion, around one hundred and eighty members and friends attended a celebratory dinner at Beverley Racecourse.

Speakers included chief executive, Peter Myers and Chairman, Bryan Young who gave a history of building societies and highlighted their importance in supporting local communities.

Peter Myers said:

"We are delighted to come together with members and friends of the society, all of whom are considered to be part of the Beverley Building Society family."

"I attribute our success and longevity to providing straight forward products and services with outstanding levels of customer service."

"We are also delighted to contribute to the local economy as an employer and user of other local services from small businesses."

The raffle during the evening raised over £1,200 for the charity partner, Action Duchenne. Which brings the half year total to almost £12,000. These funds will go direct to the charity which funds research for a cure for this type of muscular dystrophy.

Lesley Wegg, the Society's Head of Operations own son suffers with this life limiting condition. Other fundraising activity is running throughout the year to maximise the total.
